◆ Coral is an organic gemstone formed from the calcareous skeletons of marine coral polyps. Harvested from deep ocean waters, it has a long history of use in traditional jewelry and ornamental crafts.
◆ The history of Japanese coral began in 1812 when a fisherman accidentally brought up coral off the coast of Kochi. Even today, only licensed fishermen are allowed to harvest coral within a very limited area designated by the Japanese Fisheries Agency.
◆ Coral is harvested from the deep sea (over 100 meters deep). These deep-sea precious corals grow exceptionally slowly—only about 0.3mm per year—making them incredibly rare.
◆ Precious coral is sensitive to sweat and acids. Please remove it before sleeping, bathing, swimming, or entering a sauna. To maintain its beauty, gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth (such as gauze) after use.
