◆ The product photos show the actual item you will receive.
◆ This is an increasingly rare Obsidian from the Oki Islands, where mining is no longer permitted. The crafting was meticulously done by hand by Magatama artisans in the Izumo region. The remote Oki Islands of Shimane Prefecture are the only source of obsidian in the Chugoku region. Formed approximately 5 million years ago by the rapid cooling of rhyolitic magma from volcanic activity, this high-quality natural glass was born from Oki's unique geological environment. Obsidian from Oki has been excavated from ancient ruins across the Chugoku, Shikoku, and Niigata regions, indicating that its exceptional quality made it an indispensable material for life in ancient Japan.
◆ Vertically polished oval stones with a central perforation have been excavated from Jomon-period archaeological sites in Japan and are classified as 'Taishu' (large ornamental pendants).
